The UK Vaping Products Duty is coming — and it's going to change the price of everything you vape. From nic salts and shortfills to prefilled pods and refill pods, the new excise tax will push prices up by as much as 50% across the board. At VAPOURS CLUB, we believe our customers deserve to know exactly what's happening, why it matters, and what you can do about it right now.

What Is the UK Vaping Products Duty?

The Vaping Products Duty is a new excise tax introduced by the UK Government as part of its effort to reduce vaping uptake — particularly among younger people. Unlike VAT, which is a percentage of the sale price, this is a flat-rate duty applied per millilitre of e-liquid. That means every product containing e-liquid — nic salts, shortfills, prefilled pods, refill pods — will be taxed based on how much liquid it contains, regardless of its retail price.

The duty rates confirmed by HMRC are:

  • £1.00 per 10ml for e-liquids (rising to £2.20 per 10ml by 2026/27)

At scale, this adds up fast. A 100ml shortfill that costs £10 today could cost £15 or more post-duty once manufacturer, distributor, and retailer margins are accounted for. A box of prefilled pods could see similar or steeper increases depending on total liquid volume.

When Does It Come Into Effect?

The Vaping Products Duty is confirmed to come into effect on 1 October 2026. That's weeks away — not months. Once the duty is live, every retailer in the UK will be legally required to apply it. There is no workaround, no loyalty exemption, and no way for VAPOURS CLUB or any other retailer to absorb it indefinitely.

In the lead-up to the duty, manufacturers and distributors will begin adjusting their trade prices. That means the window to buy at today's prices is already narrowing, even before October.

The Retailer Stock Window — Why This Matters More Than You Think

Here's something most customers don't know: retailers across the UK — including VAPOURS CLUB — are currently stocking up on pre-duty inventory ahead of October. This means there will be a limited window after 1 October 2026 where retailers can still sell through existing stock at or near today's prices, before duty-paid stock comes in at higher cost.

That window is estimated to last around 6 months — taking us to approximately April 2027. After that, as pre-duty stock sells out and is replaced by duty-paid inventory, prices will increase by up to 50% and stay there. This isn't a temporary spike — it's a permanent structural change to pricing across the entire UK vaping market.

What this means for you: even if you miss the pre-October window, there may still be a short period post-October where prices hold. But once that pre-duty stock is gone, it's gone — and so are today's prices. The safest move is to stock up now, while supply is certain and prices are guaranteed to be lower.

Who Will Be Affected?

Every vaper in the UK will feel this. But the impact will vary depending on what you vape:

  • High-volume vapers — if you get through a lot of liquid each week, your monthly spend will increase significantly post-duty.
  • Pod system users — prefilled and refill pods contain e-liquid and will be fully subject to the duty. Popular pod systems like the Lost Mary BM6000, Elf Bar Elfa, and similar will all be affected.
  • Shortfill users — large-format bottles will carry a higher absolute duty cost due to volume, making bulk buying now especially smart.
  • Nic salt users — 10ml nic salts are already compact, but with duty applied per ml, even these will rise in price.

What Should You Stock Up On?

Not all products are equal when it comes to the duty impact. Here's a breakdown of what to prioritise:

Nic Salts

10ml nic salt bottles are the backbone of pod vaping in the UK. They're compact, they store well, and they have a shelf life of 1–2 years when kept away from heat and direct light. Stocking up on your regular flavours now is one of the simplest ways to protect your wallet. Buy a month's supply — or more — at today's prices.

Shortfills

100ml shortfills will be among the hardest hit in absolute terms, as the duty scales with volume. If you're a sub-ohm vaper who goes through a bottle or two a week, buying a three to six month supply now could save you a considerable amount. Shortfills store very well sealed and away from light.

Prefilled Pods & Refill Pods

Pod-based vaping has exploded in popularity, and prefilled and refill pods will be directly subject to the per-ml duty. Popular refill pod systems like the Lost Mary BM6000, Elf Bar Elfa, and others will all see price increases. Stock up on your compatible pods now while prices are still pre-duty.

Coils & Accessories

While coils and accessories don't contain e-liquid and won't be directly taxed, prices across the board tend to creep up during periods of industry disruption. Stock up on your regular coils, replacement pods, and any accessories you rely on to avoid any knock-on price increases.

How Much Could You Actually Save?

Let's put some rough numbers on it. If you currently spend £30 per month on vaping products and prices rise by 40–50%, you're looking at a monthly spend of £42–£45 after the duty. Over a year, that's an extra £144–£180 out of your pocket.

Buying a three-month supply now at today's prices effectively locks in those savings. The longer the shelf life of your chosen products, the more you benefit from stocking up early.

Storage Tips to Maximise Shelf Life

Concerned about storing larger quantities? Here's how to keep your products in top condition:

  • E-liquids & nic salts: store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Avoid extreme temperatures. Sealed bottles last 1–2 years.
  • Prefilled & refill pods: keep in their original packaging, away from heat. Most have a 12–18 month shelf life.
  • Coils: store dry and sealed — they have an indefinite shelf life if kept properly.

Our Commitment to You

The Vaping Products Duty is a government mandate — not a choice — and like every other UK retailer, we will be required to apply it from October 2026. We'll do everything we can to minimise the impact for our customers, but we'd be doing you a disservice if we didn't tell you plainly: prices will go up, and they won't be coming back down.

We have pre-duty stock available now. Same-day dispatch on orders before 3pm, fast UK delivery.

Don't wait. The deadline is real, it's close, and the 6-month sell-through window will go fast.
